GLSEN and the Safe Schools Movement
GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring the safety of all students. GLSEN envisions a future in which every child learns to accept and respect all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
For over 13 years, GLSEN has worked to promote the awareness, policies and leadership that ensures every student is safe and respected. GLSEN’s efforts began with the founding of the first Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) and have grown to include more than 4,000 student-led GSAs and 35 GLSEN chapters nationwide.
GLSEN is joined by individuals and other organizations in the Safe Schools Movement, a national coalition working to ensure school safety. Members of the Safe Schools Movement come from all walks of life, brought together by the belief that, whatever our differences, our schools should be safe places to learn, free from bullying, violence and harassment.
